IHCC Overwhelms MCC on Hall of Fame Night

Grant-Foster

Ottumwa -- On a night with Jackie Crawford, one of the top 3-point shooters in IHCC history, in attendance, this year's edition of the Warriors made 15 3-pointers and pounded Marshalltown CC, 95-56, to remain tied for first in the conference standings.

Crawford was inducted into the Indian Hills Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of the game.  By then, the Warriors were already ahead 44-19 and had seven of their 15 triples for the night.  There were seven different Warriors who registered at least one three, including Drake Jeffires, who hit five, and Chris Childs, who got to meet the former All-American, Crawford, after the game.  Childs added to his team-leading total with three 3s, giving him 82 on the year.

The lead changed hands five times in the early stages of the game as Marshalltown used buckets from Craig Philip and Quavon Blackwood to stay close in the opening minutes.  Indian Hills took the lead for good at 9-8, quickly built the lead on the strength of their 3-point shooting and owned a 25-point advantage at intermission.

A 3-pointer started IHCC's second-half scoring and freshman Theo Bourgeois put the finishing touches on the Warriors' 20th win with a three on their final possession.

Chris Payton scored 17 points to pace Indian Hills.  He got support from Tyon Grant-Foster and Jeffries, who scored 15 apiece, Childs with 13 and Maurice Calloo with 10.  Payton was also credited with six blocks.

Blackwood led all scorers with 19 and the Tigers also got 12 points and nine rebounds from Philip.

The Warriors shot 64 percent for the game, 68 percent in the second half, and drilled 15-of-28 3-point attempts.  Marshalltown, meanwhile, hit just 24 percent of their first-half shots and 33 percent for the night.

The game was the first of four in a row on their homecourt for the Warriors, who host Black Hawk-Moline on Tuesday and then face off against Southeastern CC Saturday, looking for revenge for IHCC's only loss in the past 15 contests.
