Juan Espinal led Indian Hills to an 11-4-1 record in his first season as head coach in 2018.  A loss in the semifinals of the region postseason tournament ended an eight-game winning streak and the Warriors' season.  Indian Hills placed six players on the all-region teams and 17 on the academic all-region squads.

Espinal, a native of Muscatine, Iowa, came to Indian Hills for his first head-coaching opportunity after a season as an assistant coach at Iowa Lakes CC.  He also coached club teams in northwest Iowa and in his hometown.

After starting his college playing career at Iowa Central CC in Fort Dodge, Espinal competed at the NCAA Division II level at Texas A&M International University.  A two-year starter, he captained Iowa Central to a top-10 national ranking and was named second-team all-region as a sophomore.  He earned his associate's degree at Iowa Central and his bachelor's degree in kinesiology at Texas A&M International, helping the soccer team reach the conference tournament final in each of his two seasons there.

Espinal was a four-year varsity starter and three-time all-conference player in high school.  He scored 32 goals as a senior at Muscatine HS and was named first-team all-state.  His playing career also includes time with the Iowa Olympic Development Program and Eastern Iowa United, one of the top club teams in the state.  He also played semi-pro soccer for the Springfield Demize and the Quad City Eagles.

After accepting the job as head coach at Indian Hills, Espinal said, "We will continue to set massive goals and look to reach the national tournament.  The facilities at Indian Hills are top notch and the staff and faculty are very welcoming.  I'm excited to be here."
