Ackley, Iowa -- The Indian Hills sports shooting squad lost a nail-biter to Iowa Lakes, 480-474, on Saturday at the Stockdale Gun Club.

Indian Hills had three shooters -- Harley Saulmon, Ryan Beitz and Cole Becker -- finish in a tie for first along with two Iowa Lakes shooters.  All had scores of 96/100.  That resulted in a shoot-off for the second and third place positions.  After the first shoot-off, the three IHCC shooters were left after all three broke 24/25 targers.  Reitz wound up winning the second shoot-off from the 22-yard line to earn the silver medal.  Saulmon and Becker were still tied, however, so they had a shoot-off from the 27-yard line with Becker edging Saulmon to take home the bronze medal.

For the ladies, Shayla Rotenburger won the gold medal with her score of 92 and Katelyn Talbert won silver with an 88.

After Saulmon, Beitz and Becker on the men's side, Drew Appleget and Trey Shafranek both had 93s.

"We shot very well considering the conditions were less than ideal," said Indian Hills coach Jake Stalzer.  "Everyone put up a respectable score, it just wasn't enough to get the victory.  Our next competition will be next Saturday, Oct. 12, against the Corridor Clay Crushers at the Otter Creek Sportsman's Club in Cedar Rapids.  It will be our final conference divisional shoot of the fall, starting at 10 a.m."
