Goodale's Gem Sparks IHCC Sweep

Marshalltown, Iowa -- Olivia Goodale faced the minumum number of hitters in a route-going pitching performance that started Indian Hills on the way to conference doubleheder sweep of Marshalltown CC on Sunday. Goodale allowed only two hits in the Warriors' 5-0 blanking of the Tigers in game one, and a six-run 4th inning led to an 8-5 second-game victory for IHCC.

Indian Hills plated two runs in the first inning of the opener and added three more in the 5th. The Tigers' two baserunners against the IHCC freshman right-hander, Goodale, weren't on base for long. Catcher Sierra Walton picked one off and the other was erased on a double play. Leadoff hitter Taylor Takushi scored two of IHCC's runs, Lexi Smith contributed a two-run single and Kassidi Henderson supplied a pair of hits as the Warriors bounced back after dropping a pair of league games at Iowa Western the day before.

Game two saw Marshalltown grab a 4-2 lead after three innings. Courtnee Hahn was hit by a pitch leading off the 4th and that was the start of an 8-hit, 6-run inning for the Warriors. The explosion included five straight hits culminating in Shyanne DuBois's three-run home run. Taylor Jones had three hits and scored two runs, Henderson and Abby Straight had two hits apiece, and Erin Kuba picked up two RBIs for the winners. Tayah Hayes started in the circle and gave way to Straight who went the final four innings.

The sweep puts the Warriors at 19-9 overall and 4-2 in ICCAC play. They will host the Simpson College JV on Tuesday.
