Long Ball Helps IHCC Split with Iowa Western

Ottumwa -- Four homers fueled Indian Hills in the first game of Wednesday's home doubleheader with Iowa Western at R.L. Hellyer Field, but the IHCC offense was held to just a solo home run in game two as the Reivers came back to gain a split in the ICCAC twinbill.

The five homers for the day accounted for all seven runs scored by the hosts, who won 6-1 before losing 9-1. Indian Hills has connected for 36 roundtrippers for the season, including nine in the past two days.

Shyanne DuBois, as she had done in the opening game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Simpson JV, started the IHCC offense with a first-inning home run. Kassidi Henderson made it a big first inning with a 3-run HR and the Warriors were off and running. Henderson went deep again in the 6th and the next batter, Keegan Helson, also homered and IHCC rolled to the victory. Freshman pitcher Olivia Goodale was in control thoughout, permitting only six hits and a lone run.

Iowa Western responded with a six-run 1st inning in the nightcap and their pitcher, Alyx Hagen, allowed only a 6th-inning solo homer to DuBois in the Reivers' win. DuBois has homered in each of the last five games for the Warriors, dating back to Sunday's second game against Marshalltown, and has 11 for the season and 20 for her IHCC career, placing her 8th on the school's all-time list. Her second-game homer was one of only four hits the Warriors had against Hagen. Marissa Promes took the loss for Indian Hills.

The Warriors are 22-10 and 5-3 in the conference and return to action on Saturday in a home doubleheader against Southeastern.
