Two More League Wins for IHCC Softball

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills pushed its season record to 23-10 and kept alive hopes for at least a share of the ICCAC regular season title by sweeping Southeastern CC on Saturday at R.L. Hellyer Field, winning by scores of 5-0 and 11-3 in five innings. The Warriors are 7-3 in the conference, trailing Iowa Western by 1 1/2 games. Indian Hills is down to just two more conference games, a doubleheader with Marshalltown this Saturday, while IWCC still has four left to play in the league.

Against SCC, Indian Hills got shutout pitching from Olivia Goodale in game one and then used a five-run 1st inning in the nightcap to take early momentum.

Goodale, in picking up her 11th win of the year, blanked the Blackhawks on six hits with two walks and five Ks. The Warriors scored a run in the 3rd inning and four more in the 5th. Taylor Takushi had two hits, scored a run and stole two bases and Courtnee Hahn chipped in two hits and a run of her own. IHCC RBIs came from Sierra Walton and Lexi Smith. Walton leads the Warriors with 31 runs-batted-in and is hitting a team-best .438.

The five-spot in the 1st put SCC in a quick hole in the second game and Indian Hills added on with two in the 2nd and four in the 4th. Smith had a solid game at the plate going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Walton was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Smith slammed her 4th homer of the year and Straight clubbed her 2nd while driving in four runs with a pair of hits. Straight combined with Marissa Promes and Tayah Hayes for pitching duties. Promes and Straight went two innings and Hayes the final frame.

When the Warriors host NIACC in a doubleheader on Thursday it will be their first of three consecutive home twinbills in as many days. They'll take on Kirkwood Friday and Marshalltown in the conference regular season finale Saturday.
