Indian Hills Softball Splits to Open Trip

Groet

Corsicana, Texas -- Indian Hills got a dominant pitching performance from sophomore Alexis Groet and a big home run from soph Abby Sweet to begin their southern swing through Texas and Oklahoma with a victory against Navarro College on Wednesday.  The Warriors won the opener of the twinbill, 2-0, then dropped a 9-1 decision in the nightcap to start their 10-game trip.

Sweet pounded a two-run homer in the 4th inning and that was all the offense IHCC needed in game one.  Groet was masterful, spacing four hits with 11 strikeouts.  Sweet had a double in addition to her long ball and Indian Hills also had singles from Brooke Snyder, Macey Harrington and Nicole Bellis.  Bellis was on base when Sweet accounted for the only runs of the game.

Indian Hills was held to just three hits in the second game as Navarro jumped on the Warriors early on the way to the victory.  Macey Harrington had a pair of singles and Anna Voigt one and Voigt drove in Tiffany Unkel with the lone run in the 5th inning.  CJ Banner was the losing pitcher.

IHCC is back in action on Thursday, playing Frank Phillips and Angelina in Lufkin, Texas.  Then it's on to Tyler for a pair of games both Friday and Saturday.
