Warriors Hand Top-Ranked Team 1st Loss

Seminole, Oklahoma -- A run-scoring single by Nicole Bellis and a strong pitching performance from CJ Banner allowed Indian Hills to give No. 1-rated Seminole State its first loss of the season in the nightcap of a Monday doubleheader between two ranked teams.  After the Trojans won the opening game, 10-6, the No. 11 Warriors overcame an early 3-0 deficit to pull out a 4-3 decision as IHCC ended an 8-game southern trip.

In game two, Banner, a freshman righthander, gave up a solo home run in the 1st and a 2-run shot in the 2nd and then fired five shutout innings for the complete-game victory.  Brooke Snider got the Warriors even with a 3-run homer in the 3rd and it stayed 3-3 until the top of the 6th when Bellis singled to center to drive in Ann Voigt with the go-ahead run.  Carrie Moffett and Chloe Olson, the 1-2 hitters in the lineup, each had two hits for the Warriors and Olson and Voigt slugged doubles.  Banner allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out two in notching the win.

The first game saw Seminole State pick up two early runs with a homer and a steal of home in the 1st inning.  Moffett doubled home Bellis and Voigt in the 2nd to tie the score at 2.  Seminole State then flexed its muscles in the 3rd, scoring 6 runs, to take an 8-2 lead.  Olson's double in the 4th plated Bellis and Tiffany Unkel, and Macey Harrington slammed solo home runs in the 5th and the 7th, but IHCC absorbed the loss despite outhitting Seminole, 9-7.  Five Indian Hills errors hurt their cause.  Alexis Groet went the distance in the circle for the Warriors, giving up seven hits and three walks with five Ks.  Four of the runs she permitted were unearned.  Harrington and Voigt had two-hit games and Moffett, Olson, Bellis, Brooke Tucker and Unkel each had one hit.

Indian Hills is slated to open its home schedule on Saturday when the Warriors host State Fair (Mo.) CC in a doubleheader at Hellyer Field, starting at 2:00.
