Murphy Helps IHCC Women To A Fast Start

Spencer, Iowa -- Freshman Emily Murphy made quite an impression in her first collegiate soccer match, scoring four goals in Indian Hills' 5-3 road win at Iowa Lakes on Saturday.  Murphy tallied two goals in each half, the final two coming after Iowa Lakes had tied the score at 3-all.

Murphy's first goal came just five minutes into the game and was assisted by Kiri Chiba.  IHCC's Blessing Agada, another freshman, made it 2-zip with a goal in the 15th minute with Emma Rosner getting an assist.

After Iowa Lakes got on the scoreboard, Murphy found the back of the net again, with two returning sophs from last year's 12-2-3 IHCC squad, Molly Kellar and Calista Fuessley getting assists, to make it 3-1 Warriors at intermission.

The second half was scoreless until Iowa Lakes notched a pair of goals to even things up at 3-3.  That's when Murphy went back to work, scoring in the 81st minute with assists by Chiba and Pizzarello, and again five minutes later off another feed from Pizzarello, another stalwart on last year's Warrior team.

Murphy had seven shots in the match and IHCC outshot the Lakers 22-7.  Freshman goalkeeper Megan Wick made four saves for Indian Hills, while Adele Brown, the ILCC keeper, had 17 saves.

It was the first four-goal game for an Indian Hills player since Brandi Menephee had four in last year's opener, a win against Oakton.

The Warriors go back on the road Tuesday against John Wood CC in Quincy, Ill., then have their first home contest against Jefferson (Mo.) College on Friday at 1:00.
