IHCC Women Take Home Opener

Ottumwa -- Five different players scored two or more goals and Indian Hills routed Jefferson (Mo.) College, 12-1, Friday in the Warriors' first of two matches in the Wells Fargo Cup.  It was the third straight win to start the season for IHCC and the second consecutive contest in which they reached double digits in goals.

Emily Murphy continued the torrid start to her freshman season, scoring three goals for Indian Hills, giving her 10 for the first three games.  Murphy started the scoring with a goal just eight minutes into the contest.  Miranda Kurtt followed with two straight goals nine minutes apart before Murphy again found the back of the net in the 20th minute.  Blessing Agada and Charlyann Pizzarello tallied goals with a minute of each other later in the opening half and Jefferson's only goal came later in the half.

Leading 6-0 at intermission, Indian Hills tacked on six more goals in the final period.  Kiri Chiba got things started just three minutes into the half, Pizzarello and Murphy had back-to-back goals, Agada achieved a hat trick with consecutive goals, and Chiba got her second score to close things out.

Indian Hills had 11 different players assist on the dozen goals, led by Emma Rosner and Kurtt with three each.  Pizzarello, Murphy, Carmen Kager, Chiba and Maite Montalvo.  The other assists were from Julie Gouilliart, Kinsey Cook, Juanita Miller and Agada. 

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Megan Wick had a relatively quiet time in goal for the Warriors, stopping three shots while allowing the lone goal.

The Warriors will play in the championship game of the Wells Fargo Cup for the second year in a row on Sunday afternoon.
