Warriors Suffer First Loss

Iowa Western

Council Bluffs, Iowa -- In a battle of ranked teams, Iowa Western, the No. 11 team in the latest NJCAA poll, defeated 15th-ranked Indian Hills, 3-1, on Wednesday, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season.

It is the only regular-season matchup between the two and, quite possibly, a preview of a return match in the postseason conference tourney.

Moriah Lucas provided the first and third goals for the Reivers, scoring in the 12th minute and adding a second-half score to complete the scoring.  IHCC's Emily Murphy got the lone goal for her team, her 25th of the season, in the 40th minute with an assist from Madison L. Meyer.  That cut the IWCC lead to 2-1, but the Warriors couldn't get the equalizer.  Iowa Western keeper Judit Gonzalez made two saves, half as many as Indian Hills goalkeeper Elani Mears.

The Warriors' season record is 11-1-1 and they are 3-1-1 in the ICCAC.  Their last three regular-season games are all on their home pitch, starting with a contest against Iowa Central this Saturday.
