Golden Goal by Murphy Beats Iowa Central

Murphy

Ottumwa -- Emily Murphy's goal in the second overtime period, her 27th of the season, allowed Indian Hills to bounce back from their first loss of the year three days prior and defeat Iowa Central, 2-1, on Saturday at the IHCC field.

Murphy had scored the other Warrior goal in the opening half and her game-winner gave Indian Hills its 12th win and an important one after they were knocked off by Iowa Western in their previous contest on Wednesday.

The day's first goal for Murphy came in the 19th minute with an assist from Julie Gouilliart.  The score stayed 1-nil until Iowa Central's Maria Crimmins scored an unassisted goal in the second half.  The Tritons nearly pulled off the win late, but Indian Hills keeper Elani Mears made a huge save after an ICCC corner kick near the end of regulation time.  Mears made three saves total in a match in which IHCC coach Anthony Longo said he felt his team could have put the game away in the first half when they failed to connect on "five or six point-blank looks."

The Warriors are now 12-1-1 and 4-1-1 in the ICCAC with two games remaining in the regular season, both at home.  They will host Hawkeye CC on Wednesday and Northeast (Neb.) Saturday.
