IHCC Women Produce Notable Performances in 2 Meets

Lincoln, Nebraska -- The Indian Hills women's track and field squad turned in five all-time top-five times and distances in a pair of meets over the weekend.  Some of the Warriors competed in the Graduate Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska and others went to the Dutch Athletics Classic at Central College.

In Lincoln, I'Reoina Lightsey ran the 400 meters in 1:02.70, good for 10th place.  Ceyda Nazli posted a time of 1:47.22 for the 600 meters.  Shiggo Shadin turned in a time of 2:38.08 in the 800 meters and was 13th.  Morgan Lawson's time of 12:35.30 in the 3000 meters was also a top-five performance.  And Jordan Atwood placed 13th in the long jump at Central by jumping 4.49 meters.

Some other noteworthy marks at the UN-L meet were Kylar Brown's 8.08 in the qualifying round of the 60 meters, lowering her lifetime best; Jocelynn Crowell was 13th overall in that event with her 8.06; Dasauna Combs finished 17th in the 60 meters (8.13); Halley Wilmes was 5th in the 800 meters (2:28.52) and 8th in the 600 (1:46.18); Haley Revell threw the shot 34'3" to come in 11th; and the IHCC 4x400 relay unit of Crowell, Brown, Combs and Melanie Hall ran the second-fastest time in school history, placing 5th overall in 4:07.21.

Other results in the Nebraska meet were Destiny Lottie's time of 26.87 in the 200 meters and her 400 meter time of 1:03.84; Lightsey running 27.29 in the 200 meters; Shadin with a 1:51.29 in the 600 meters; and Nazli coming in at 2:38.26 in the 800.  The distance medley relay team of Shadin, Wilmes, Nazli and Lawson was 9th in 14:44.58.

At Central College, Atwood, in addition to her long jump, ran 30.0 to finish 12th in the 200 meters, and Abby Ellison was 6th in the 400 meters in 1:09.69.

Coach Brent Ewing said the women had some positive things happen, especially on the distance side.  "Wilmes, Shadin, Nazli and Lawson all had big weekends, racing multiple events," Ewing explained. "The women's 4x400 dropped five seconds and we were hoping to get that event qualified for nationals this weekend but fell short by a few seconds.  I liked the aggressiveness shown by Melanie Hall and Kylar Brown on the relay.  I was also happy to see Jordan Atwood have a big improvement in her long jump at Central College.  It's still early in the season.  Our focus at this point in the year is to improve upon the technical components of our events and gain experience."

Indian Hills will continue to get that needed experience when they take part in the Jack Jennett Invite at the University of Northern Iowa next weekend.
