Storm Lake, Iowa -- Indian Hills got school records from Kylar Brown and Haley Revell on the way to a 4th-place finish in the Region XI Indoor Championships over the weekend.  At the meet in the Lamberti Recreation Center on the Buena Vista University campus, Brown finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 35'02.5" to establish an IHCC record.  Revell threw the shot 38'6.75" for the other program record, coming in 5th in that event.

Morgan Lawson's time of 11:44.76 in the 3000 meters was good for 3rd place.  Her time ranks second in IHCC records and lowered her previous best by 30 seconds.

Other notable performances for the Warrios included Melanie Hall (7.85), Jocelynn Crowell (7.86) and Dasauna Combs (7.93) with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fastest IHCC times in the 60 meter dash and the trio came in 6th, 7th and 9th, respectively.  Crowell also turned in the second-fastest effort ever in the 200 meters, running 25.72 for 5th place.  Also in the 200, Destiny Lottie (26.30), I'Reoina Lightsey (26.39) and Combs (26.49) finished 9th through 11th.  In the 400 meters, Brown (59.99) was 3rd, Lightsey (1:00.53) 5th and Hall (1:01.54) 8th.  Brown currently ranks as the program's second-fastest 400 runner, Lightsey moved up to 4th alltime and Hall remains 3rd.  Halley Wilmes took home 3rd team all-region honors in the 1000 meters after running 3:12.40.  Ceyda Nazli and Shiggo Shadin picked up points for IHCC in the 800 meters, running 2:33.64 and 2:38.14, respectively.  The 4x400 relay unit of Hall, Lightsey, Brown and Crowell ran 4:06.85 to place 3rd.

Lottie ran 8.06 in the 60 meters; Ashley Miller (1:06.78) and Abby Ellison (1:08.11) competed in the 400; and the quartet of Shadin, Lawson, Nazli and Wilmes finished the 4x800 in 10:39.02.

"This was definitely the best showing our women's program has had at the region meet," said IHCC head coach Brent Ewing, with his squad coming in 4th, just three points from 3rd place in the team standings and edging out No. 18-ranked Hawkeye CC.  "We entered the meet ranked 28th nationally," noted Ewing, "and our goal was to get 3rd in the region.  I knew this was a tall task because we had the 2nd, 7th, 18th and 19th teams in the nation in our region.  We were able to take down the 18th team, but fell just short of third.  Almost all of our athletes are sophomores which makes me excited about our future.  The continued growth of our women's team is something I'm really looking forward to."

Indian Hills has qualified three events for next month's National Championships.  IHCC will be represented by Wilmes in the 1000 meters and Brown in the triple jump, and the 4x400 team of Hall, Lightsey, Brown and Crowell will also compete at nationals.
