Indian Hills Handles Hawkeye

Ottumwa -- With a big trip to Hutchinson, Kans., looming this weekend, the Indian Hills volleyball team overcame a slow start to defeat Hawkeye CC, 3-1, on Monday night at the Hellyer Center.

Hawkeye, playing the Warriors in volleyball for the first time ever, rallied to take the opening set, 25-22, and led 16-14 in set two before the Warriors staged their own rally.  IHCC took the set, 25-21, then closed out the RedTails with 25-16 and 25-20 decisions in the next two sets.

Mariana Rodrigues led IHCC at the net with 19 kills.  Cecelia Campos chipped in with 17 kills and 12 digs and Iva Vranic had 10 kills.  Amanda Toyota led with 17 digs. 

The win boosts the Warriors' season mark to 10-4.  Hawkeye lost for only the third time in 14 matches.

Indian Hills travels to play in the Blue Dragon Invitational in Kansas this weekend and all four of its opponents were ranked in the latest NJCAA Division I poll.  IHCC battles Northeastern (Colo.), number-20, and 13th-rated New Mexico Military on Friday, then takes on No. 8 Navarro (Tex.) and 5th-ranked Tyler (Tex.) Saturday.
