Sophs Lead the Way in Win over MCC

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills recognized its sophomore volleyball players on Wednesday night before the final home match against Marshalltown CC and the sophs then went out and made major contributions to the Warriors' 3-1 win.  The second-year players dominated the stat sheet for Indian Hills, now 28-3 for the year.

IHCC took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-23, lost a close 25-23 decision, then finished off the Tigers by a 25-18 count in set four.

Mariana Rodrigues, an All-American as a freshman, shined in her final home action, leading the squad with 21 kills.  She was one of four Warriors with 12 or more digs, chipping in a dozen.  Amanda Toyota had 24 digs, one away from her season-high, Thayna Birimba had 13 and Cassia Lemos 12.  Lemos added another 54 assists to her season total.  Four other sophomores also played a part in the win.  Gabriela Cavalcante pounded 10 kills and served up three aces; Nikoleta Kandic had nine kills; Natalia Araujo led with four blocks; and Ana Nunes had three blocks. 

The Warriors play at Highland CC in Kansas Friday, and are at Johnson County CC for a pair of matches on Saturday.
