IHCC Women Run in the Cold

Trent Smith Invite

Mason City, Iowa -- Coach Brent Ewing called it a "stellar showing" for the Indian Hills women's cross country runners who competed in the Trent Smith Invitational on Friday.

The conditions were rough -- 20 mile-an-hour winds and a wind chill around 30 degrees, by far the most challenging weather of the fall.  But all four of the IHCC runners who ran were within 15 seconds of their personal bests, despite the adverse conditions.

Halley Wilmes paced the Indian Hills runners with her time of 21:42.35 over the 5k course, good for 41st place.  Morgan Lawson and Shiggo Shadin were separated by less than 10 seconds -- Lawson running 21:52.51 and Shaddin 22:01.46.  Ceyda Nazli finished the course in 22:59.14.

"Our runners were all within 15 seconds of their personal bests despite the poor conditions," said head coach Brent Ewing.  Coach (Derek) Wilson has done a great job progressing them throughout the season.  I think they're all capable of finishing between 10th and 25th at the Region Championships."

Indian Hills will host the Region XI Championships on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Cedar Creek Golf Course in Ottumwa.
