FEBRUARY HY-VEE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Athletic Department has announced its Hy-Vee February Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month. Sophomore Sara Reid (Central City, IA/Central) of the softball team and freshman Isaac Gibbs (Prosper, TX/Rock Hill) of the men's wrestling team have been recognized for their success athletically and academically throughout the month.

Reid, in her second season for the Warriors, helped the program jump out to an impressive start with her efforts in the circle. The sophomore was twice named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Pitcher of the Week after a series of strong showings for the Warriors.

Reid earned a pair of wins for the Warriors, including a signature victory over No. 2 nationally ranked Northwest Florida State College at the JUCO Extravaganza in Oxford, AL. Reid pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to power the Warriors to the upset victory. The sophomore followed up with another dominant performance against No. 3 nationally ranked Wallace State Community College (AL) in Oxford with six innings of work as the Warriors dropped a narrow 1-0 decision. Despite the loss, Reid scattered just six hits with one unearned allowed while striking out five batters.

A member of the NJCAA All-Academic Third-Team and a two-time member of the ICCAC Academic All-Region team as a freshman, Reid has continued to excel in the classroom as an education major, earning ICCAC Academic All-Region First-Team honors this past fall term.

Gibbs starred on the mat throughout the month for the Warriors to continue his remarkable freshman campaign. Gibbs captured the 125lb National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 125lb North Central District Championship to lead the Warriors to a third-place finish on February 11.

The championship victory gave Gibbs 27 victories on the season, which tied the Indian Hills school record. Gibbs since went on to move into sole possession of the single season record after earning All-American honors at the 2024 NJCAA National Championship in Council Bluffs, IA. Ranked in the national poll throughout a majority of the year, Gibbs earned the No. 7 seed at the national championship to help lead the Warriors to a seventh-place showing, the program's best performance at nationals in school history.

During the fall term, Gibbs was named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region team for his efforts in the classroom.
