Heather Newsome née Parsons left an indelible mark on the Indian Hills softball program during a two-year tenure in Ottumwa. Parsons will officially be inducted into the Indian Hills Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 22 at halftime of the men's basketball game at the Hellyer Center in Ottumwa.

A native of Agency, IA, Parsons joined a Warrior program in 2004 that had just wrapped up its 13th consecutive trip to the NJCAA National Tournament. Then-head coach Jeff Kelley, with a talented roster of sophomores, saw the potential in the incoming freshman, stating "As our leadoff hitter, she will be counted on to torment opposing defenses with her speed and aggressive baserunning." Parsons lived up to the hype.

As a freshman, Parsons batted .455 with a .673 slugging percentage and a .502 on-base percentage. Parsons collected 92 hits, including 31 extra base hits with 83 runs scored and 44 RBI. Parsons' speed on the base path led to a perfect 36-36 in stolen base attempts on the year. For her efforts, Parsons was named a first-team NFCA All-American and earned first-team NJCAA All-Region XI honors as the Warriors won 60 games and placed fourth at the national tournament.

Parsons followed up a remarkable freshman campaign with a second All-American selection as a sophomore after setting a pair of school records. Parsons collected 83 hits and posted a .396 batting average while swiping 26 stolen bases. The Warriors won 62 games and once again reached the national tournament as Parsons was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team. Parsons also earned NJCAA All-Region XI and NFCA Midwest District honors to go along with the All-American honor.

Parsons' career at Indian Hills is dotted throughout the record books. Entering the 2022 season, Parsons ranks inside the top-10 in seven separate career records and six single-season lists. Parsons still holds the record for most career at bats and ranks second all-time in career doubles and career stolen bases. Parsons' .455 career batting average is the fifth-highest mark all-time.

Along with the on-field accomplishments, Parsons was an All-Academic performer in the classroom for the Warriors who were named Academic Teams of the Year in each season. Following a decorated run at Indian Hills, Parsons concluded her collegiate career at Dana College (NE).
