Kelly was at the helm of the Indian Hills athletic department in a period of unparalleled success during which the softball, baseball, golf, volleyball and basketball teams all made multiple national tournament appearances during his tenure as the athletic director.  The basketball team won three consecutive national titles, the only Division I school ever to accomplish the feat, and made two additional visits to the tourney, reaching the semifinals of the 2001 event; the golf squad brought home the school's first national crown in 2000 and played in the national tournament every year he was AD; the baseball team made six trips to the JUCO World Series, finishing fourth in 2004; the volleyball squad qualified for its first-ever trip to the national tourney, placing third in 2004, and then returned to the tourney the following year; and the softball team qualified for the national tournament every year that Conrad was the AD, a total of 12 trips in a row.  During Conrad's tenure with the athletic department, Indian Hills celebrated four national titles, had 100 student-athletes named to the NJCAA's academic honors list and 79 who were chosen All-Americans. He left the athletic department after a 12-year stint to become IHCC Dean of Students, retiring from the college in 2013.
