Boone, Iowa -- Sophomore catcher Zac Fascia continued his hot hitting and Indian Hills gained a split in Tuesday's doubleheader, beating DMACC 7-5 after dropping the first game to the Bears, 10-9.
Fascia blasted two home runs and knocked in four runs in the opener, then banged out two doubles and a single in the nightcap when the Falcons tallied four runs in the 5th to gain their 30th win of the spring. He raised his batting average to .328, third-best on the team, with a 5-for-6 performance.
Indian Hills fell behind 9-4 in game one before tying the score with a five-run 6th inning. Fascia slammed a two-run home run in the 1st inning and his second two-run shot knotted the score at 9-all. Gabe Coburn's two-run double and a sacrifice fly from Declan Buckle were also part of the IHCC comeback inning. But DMACC's Matt Krambeck provided the winning blow -- a solo homer off Tristan Ledger in the bottom of the 6th. Jameson Hart had two hits to go along with Fascia's two.
Another big IHCC inning -- this one a four-run 5th -- was the difference in game two. The score was tied at 3-3 after four innings. Justin King doubled home Fascia for the go-ahead run, Hart added an RBI single, Jordan Yamaguchi had a sac fly and Buckle ended the uprising with a run-scoring hit.
Brett Kauzlarich went the first four innings and picked up the victory, despite allowing three solo homers. DJ DePiero came out of the bullpen to get a strikeout in the bottom of the 5th and nail down the win.
Fascia had a single and two doubles, one of them a two-run blow, and Jay Hester tripled for the Falcons.
Indian Hills ended the day with a 30-20 season record and will play a four-game series at Marshalltown CC this weekend.
