Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team has adjusted its weekend schedule. Originally scheduled to play Friday and Sunday, the Warriors will now play Friday and Saturday against St. Cloud Technical & Community College at Pat Daugherty Field.

FIRST PITCH

Originally scheduled to take on Garden City Community College (KS) and St. Cloud for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend, the Warriors will now only face St. Cloud in a three-game series, including the team's first night game of the year on Friday night.

  • Indian Hills has won four consceutive contests, all at Pat Daugherty Field where the Warriors are undefeated this season.
  • During the four-game stretch, the Warriors have outscored the opposition 42-9 and have outscored team's 121-67 through the first 16 games of the year.
  • Ciro Benavides bumped his team-leading batting average to .400 on the year and is 6-13 at the plate over the last four games.
  • Seven different individuals are batting .300 or batter on the year, including Endi Jaquez and Dylan Sayles who are batting .372 and .349, respectively.
  • The Warrior pitching staff has seen strong performances from its sophomore class, including starters Andrei Gordeev and Jordan Scholl who are a combined 5-1 on the year.
  • Sophomore relievers Nathan Smithburg, Tomoki Jitsukawa, Carlos Valenzuela, and Logan Winkelman have carried the weight of the bullpen throughout the early portion of the year.

LAST TIME OUT

Indian Hills is coming off an 8-4 victory at home over Southwestern Community College on Tuesday, the team's fourth consecutive win.

SERIES HISTORY

The two teams have met just four times prior to the weekend series, all since the 2015 season and all at Pat Daugherty Field. St. Cloud took the first all-time matchup, 5-4 on March 21, 2015. Indian Hills and St. Cloud played a three-game series in Centerville March 15-16, 2022 with the Warriors winning the first two contets, 3-1 and 11-1, before dropping the finale 4-3.

SCOUTING THE CYCLONES

St. Cloud is off to a 6-3 start on the year, but have won five consecutive matchups heading into the weekend series with the Warriors.

  • As a team, the Cyclones own a .311 batting average on the year while opponents are hitting just .264 at the plate.
  • The Cyclones rank first in the nation at the NJCAA DIII level with 11 triples on the year while the team's 23 stolen bases are third-most in the nation.
  • Sophomore Jake Ince is batting .385 with five extra base hits on the year, including a team-high three triples.
  • The St. Cloud pitching staff owns a 5.31 team earned run average as 18 different players have seen time on the mound this year.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Warriors will open up Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play with a 2:00 PM home game against Kirkwood Community College on March 20. First pitch from Pat Daugherty Field is set for 2:00 PM.
