FULK, HUEBNER EARN NATIONAL HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – A pair of Indian Hills student-athletes were recognized on the national level on Wednesday, earning National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Athlete of the Week honors.

Sophomore Eva Fulk (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) of the Indian Hills Softball team and freshman Cole Huebner (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona) of the Indian Hills Baseball team were honored for their efforts on the diamond last week. The duo also collected Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honors, the second time this season each individual was honored by the conference office.

Fulk continued to pace the offense as the sophomore batted .727 (8-11) on the week with half of her hits going for extra bases. Fulk posted a 2-2 performance with four runs, three RBI, and three walks in a rout of Marshalltown and added a 3-4 performance with two doubles against Southeastern Community College to highlight a productive week.

Fulk upped her team-leading batting average to .429 with the impressive week on the diamond. Fulk also leads the Warriors in runs scored (29), hits (39), triples (3), stolen bases (9), walks (10), and on-base percentage (.485).

Huebner produced another dominant outing on the mound for the second consecutive appearance. The freshman hurler went five innings without allowing a run in a 24-0 conference victory over Southwestern Community College. Huebner scattered six hits and struck out a season-high 10 batters without issuing a walk.

With his second consecutive scoreless outing, Huebner lowered his earned run average to a team-best 1.19, tied for the sixth-lowest mark in the nation this year. Huebner, who owns a 3-1 record on the year, has not allowed more than one earned run in five appearances this season.

The Indian Hills Baseball team returns to action this weekend with a three-game series against Iowa Lakes Community College. Originally scheduled to be played in Estherville, IA, the Warriors will now host the Lakers for a doubleheader at 2:00 PM on Friday and a single contest at 1:00 PM Saturday. The Warrior softball squad returns to action on April 2 in Mattoon, IL against Lake Land Community College.
