Wichita, KS – The Indian Hills Men's Golf team is set to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Central District Championship at the Crestview Country Club in Wichita, KS on Monday.

Indian Hills, ranked No. 5 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA DI Coaches Poll, enters postseason play as one of the top teams in the nation, having won its last two team tournaments.

  • The Warriors recently claimed the Prairie Dunes Collegiate at the Prairie Dunes Golf Course in Sterling, KS and the Bethany College Classic in Newton, KS.
  • Along with the team titles, the Warriors also took back-to-back medalist honors with Mitchell Revie (Queensland, Australia/Robina State), and Gaspar Glaudas (Sainte Tulle, France/Shattuck St-Mary's) earning top honors, respectively.
  • Glaudas, this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week, is one of seven Warrior golfers to win the weekly honor this year.
  • Indian Hills has won nine NJCAA District Championships since 2004, most recently winning the title in 2016.
  • The Warriors are six-time NJCAA National Champions (2000, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2018).

LAST TIME OUT

At last year's NJCAA Central District Championship at the Lochland Country Club in Hastings, NE, the Warriors placed third overall after climbing two spots in the final round. The Warriors were led by former standout Frank Vucic's second-place finish.

Indian Hills, nine-time winners of the NJCAA District Championship, most recently won the NJCAA District Championship in 2016.

All seven members of the Warriors will compete in this year's tournament with five named to the starting lineup and two playing as individuals.

THE FIELD

One of the top districts in the NJCAA, the Warriors will compete against teams from NJCAA Region 11 (Iowa), NJCAA Region 6 (Kansas), and NJCAA Region 16 (Missouri).

This year's field features six teams ranked in the top-20 in the latest national rankings, including three in the top-10. Top-ranked Hutchinson Community College (KS) enters the tournament as the back-to-back national champions. The tournament also features No. 3 Dodge City Community College (KS), No. 17 Barton College (KS) and No. 19 Iowa Western Community College.

THE COURSE

The Warriors will be competing at Crestview Country Club for the second time this season after competing at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational, hosted by Wichita State back on October 10-11. The Warriors placed fifth overall and were just four strokes back from top-ranked Hutchinson Community College (KS).

Crestview, the only 36-hole Country Club in the state of Kansas, is a Robert Trent Jones designed course. From the tips, the par-72 course boasts a distance of 6,959 yards with a slope rating of 74.7/133. The course features four Par 3's and four Par 5 holes.

WETRICH'S NOTES

Head coach Michael Wetrich has his team playing some of the top golf in the nation heading into postseason play. Wetrich is set for his second NJCAA Central District Championship.

"Very excited to get our postseason underway. Our guys have been playing some solid golf this last month and we will have a great test at Crestview Country Club in Wichita."

WHAT'S NEXT

The top five team finishers at the NJCAA Central District Championship will qualify for the upcoming NJCAA National Championship at Sand Creek Golf Station in Newton, KS May 16-19. Along with automatic qualification across the four districts in the NJCAA, two at-large teams will be selected to compete at the national championship.
