Newton, KS – The No. 6 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Golf team is set to open play at the 2023 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Golf National Championship on Tuesday afternoon.

The four-day tournament gets underway from the historic Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, KS on Tuesday with 18 holes of golf each day.

FAIRWAY NOTES

The Indian Hills Men's Golf team enters the national tournament as one of the hottest junior college golf teams in the nation.

  • The fifth-ranked Warriors are coming off a runner-up finish at the NJCAA Central District Championship, finishing behind No. 4 Dodge City Community College (KS).
  • Prior to the Warriors' District performance, Indian Hills captured two team titles with a win at the Prairie Dunes Collegiate April 3-4 and the Bethany College Classic April 10-11.
  • Gaspar Glaudas, the Warriors' top performer at the District championship, was recently named the SwingU GCAA NJCAA Golfer of the Month for the month of April.
  • Indian Hills has played 25 rounds of golf this year and own a team average of 289.24 strokes per round.
  • Taimur Malik's 72.2 stroke average leads the team followed by Glaudas' 72.4 and Edouard Cereto's 72.8.

SCOUTING THE FIELD

The 2023 NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Championship features 24 teams from around the nation, including the top-20 nationally ranked programs.

  • No. 1 ranked Hutchinson enters the tournament as the two-time defending national champions, but placed third behind Dodge City and Indian Hills at the NJCAA Central District Championship.
  • Indian Hills is joined by fellow ICCAC opponent Iowa Western, ranked No. 16 in the national rankings.
  • The last 14 teams to win the NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Championship will be playing in this year's field.
  • Indian Hills' five NJCAA DI championships are tied for the second-most since 1990. Central Alabama leads the way with eight.

THE COURSE

The Warriors will be competing at Sand Creek Station for the third time this year. Indian Hills won the Bethany College Classic April 10-11 and placed seventh at the NJCAA National Preview September 27-28.

  • Sand Creek Station Golf Course serves as a Par 72 course with a yardage of 7,058.
  • The course features four Par 5 holes with Hole 10, nicknamed 'The Beat' playing a course-long 648 yards.
  • The course features four Par 3 holes with No. 17, nicknamed 'The Horseshoe' playing 138 yards.
  • Sand Creek Station Golf Course, designed by architect Jeff Brauer was previously ranked as the second-best golf course in the state of Kansas.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

One of the most historic programs in junior college men's golf, the Warriors have won six national championships.

  • The Warriors have claimed national titles at the DI level in 2018, 2015, 2014, 2012 and 2011 and also own a DII national title from 2000.
  • Indian Hills also owns four runner-up finishes and 25 top-10 finishes.
  • In four national championship appearances in the state of Kansas, the Warriors have finished no worse than third, including two national championships at Sand Creek Station in 2012 and 2015.
