Coming off the program's 17th all-time trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament, head coach Hank Plona's squad is set to tip-off the regular season as the No. 3 ranked team in the preseason national poll.

WARRIOR NOTES

The Warriors saw 10 players from last year's national tournament team move on to the four-year level, giving Plona a new look to this year's squad. Despite 12 newcomers to this year's roster, the Warriors bring back an experienced core group with sophomores Enoch Kalambay (Gatineau, Quebec/Orangeville Prep), Eddiean Tirado (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Miami Triple Threat), Leeroy Odiahi (Tralee, Ireland/George Harris), and Mouhamadou Mbow (Dakar, Senegal/Victory Rock Prep). Kalambay was named to the NJCAA All-Region XI Honorable Mention team as a freshman.

  • Under Plona, the Warriors are 6-0 all-time in season-openers at the Hellyer Center.
  • The Warriors were picked to finish first in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Coaches Poll with Marshalltown Community College picked second and Southeastern Community College picked third.
  • This year's roster features six freshman and five sophomore transfers.

SIZING UP THE CONQUISTADORS

Dodge City is coming off a historic season that saw a new program record for wins after going 30-5 on the year. The Conquistadors won the KJCCC title for the first time since 2007 and made its first trip to the national tournament since 1974, reaching the elite eighth round.

Under first-year head coach Brad Witherspoon, Dodge City has been picked to finish eighth in the KJCCC East Division I league. Witherspoon comes to Dodge City after a successful stint at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa last year and brings a pair of talented transfers from the Mavericks to Dodge City for this year, including Top 50 JUCO Freshman from a year ago DJ Jones.

SERIES HISTORY

The two sides have met just once in school history, a 104-88 victory for Indian Hills at the Hellyer Center on December 5, 2014 in the PCS Classic. The Warriors were led in that game by Gary Williams Jr.'s career-high 25 points and a season-high 19 from Louis Adams Jr.

Dating back to the 1993-94 season, the Warriors are 24-3 vs. schools from the state of Kansas.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Warriors will continue its homestand and are set to host the RV & Power Sport Classic November 4-5 at the Hellyer Center. The four-game, two-day event will feature Iowa Lakes Community College, Independence Community College (KS), and Cloud County Community College (KS). The Warriors will take on Cloud County at 7:00 PM Friday night and Independence at 7:00 PM on Saturday night.
