Carterville, IL – For the third time in four seasons, Indian Hills Men's Basketball will square off with perennial national contender John A. Logan. The two squads meet at 7:00 PM Wednesday night in the John A. Logan Gymnasium.

The top matchup of all NJCAA basketball games on Wednesday night features the Warriors and Volunteers squaring off as the two nationally ranked squads look to put on a show early in the year. The Warriors enter Wednesday night's contest ranked No. 5 in the nation after three straight wins to open the year while John A. Logan enters at No. 12 in the national rankings with a 2-0 record.

EARLY SEASON NOTES

Indian Hills is 3-0 to open the year after three-straight matchups at the Hellyer Center in Ottumwa. The Warriors used a thrilling overtime buzzer beater from Don McHenry (Milwaukee, WI/Hawaii-Hilo) to knock off Dodge City Community College in the season opener before upending Cloud County Community College 79-68 on the opening night of the RV & Power Sport Classic. The Warriors earned its third win in dominant fashion with a 60-point route of Independence Community College on Saturday.

The Volunteers are coming off a pair of wins at the 1st Midwest Bank Classic in Poplar Bluff, MO. John A. Logan defeated Mineral Area College 75-63 before holding off Three Rivers Community College 99-95 in double overtime. The Volunteers were not ranked in the preseason NJCAA DI Men's Basketball poll but ascended to No. 12 in the first regular season rankings, announced on Monday. The Volunteers are under the direction of first-year head coach Tyler Smithpeters.

  • Following his buzzer-beater to knock off Dodge City, Don McHenry was tapped as this week's ICCAC DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.
  • Through three games this year, five individuals are averaging in double-figures, led by Truth Harris' 13.3 per game
  • The Warriors went 6-0 in the state of Illinois last year and have not lost in the Prairie State since November 18, 2016.
  • Indian Hills and John A. Logan have three common opponents on their schedule this year – Three Rivers, Triton College and Moberly Area Community College.

VOLS TO WATCH

Like the Warriors, five individuals are averaging double-figures through the first two games of the year for John A. Logan. As a team, the Volunteers are averaging 87.0 points per game while shooting just 29.1 percent from three-point range. The Volunteers have reloaded its roster this year after 2022-23 NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Player of the Year Sean East transferred to Missouri.

  • Quimari Peterson leads the way with 17-5 points per game after scoring 23 against Three Rivers.
  • Curt Lewis has filled the stat sheet in back-to-back games, scoring 22 points with 10 rebounds against Three Rivers and adding 10 points and eight steals vs. Mineral Area.

SERIES HISTORY

Two perennial national powerhouse programs meet for just the third time in program history wit hall three matchups coming over the last four seasons.

    • Remember J'Vonne Hadley? The eventual ICCAC Player of the Year made his name known to Warrior fans early in his career after hitting the go-ahead bucket in the closing seconds to knock off No. 2 John A. Logan in Mattoon, IL last season.
  • First Meeting (November 2, 2019)
    • Tyon Grant-Foster proved why he was the top JUCO player in the nation early in the year after scoring 24 points to knock off No. 4 John A. Logan 72-63 at the Hellyer Center.

The Warriors' out-of-state road trip continues following Wednesday night's matchup as Indian Hills heads to the annual Iowa-Missouri Challenge in Poplar Bluff, MO, hosted by Three Rivers on November 11-12.
