WARRIORS STUMBLE AT HOME, SUFFER FIRST LOSS

Ottumwa, IA – The No. 1 ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday night, suffering an 87-82 overtime loss to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College on the final night of the Hy-Vee Classic at the Hellyer Center. The Warriors fall to 14-1 overall on the year.

Sophomore Enoch Kalambay (Gatineau, Canada/Orangeville Prep) and freshman Trevion LeBaeux (Waterloo, IA/Ames) scored a team-high 13 points. Sophomore David Jones (Sacramento, CA/Panola) produced a dominant performance on both ends of the floor with his second double-double of the season. Jones scored 11 points and pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds. Jones' 18 rebounds are the most by an Indian Hills player since Torrey Patton grabbed 20 boards in a 105-98 victory over Missouri State University – West Plains on January 4, 2019.

Lado Laku (Dallas, TX/Cal State Fullerton) added 12 points and six rebounds while Don McHenry (Milwaukee, WI/Hawaii-Hilo) tallied 11 points, five assists, and four steals in the loss.

The Warriors pulled down a season-high 63 rebounds to hold a 23-board advantage over the Norsemen. Indian Hills grabbed a season-high 24 offensive rebounds and converted those opportunities into 25 second chance points on the night.

Despite holding the Norsemen to just 27.9 percent from three-point range, the Warriors recorded its second-lowest field goal percentage of the year, shooting just 39.8 percent from the floor while only connecting on 6-34 from three-point range.

It was all Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to open the game as the Norse led 16-8 early on. The Warriors battled back to keep within striking distance, but the visiting team maintained a lead for a stretch of nearly 10 minutes. The Warriors found success in the paint as Jones scored seven points over the final seven minutes of the first half to help Indian Hills build its largest lead of the night and take a 40-34 lead into halftime.

Indian Hills kept a marginal distance from the Norse throughout the early goings of the second half despite numerous efforts from the opposition. Indian Hills maintained the lead until the 2:33 mark of the second half when the Norse jumped on top 68-67 and the two sides traded buckets the rest of the way. A three-point shot from McHenry with 43 ticks to go tied the game at 73, a score that lasted the remainder of the half and forced overtime.

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M scored the first bucket of the extra session before Kalambay hit a layup and added at three for a 79-77 lead. The Norse regained the lead and took an 82-79 advantage before McHenry came through in the clutch with a long-range shot once again. It was the visiting team that prevailed in the closing seconds as the Norse scored the final five minutes to upset the top-ranked team in the nation.

The loss ends a 26-game regular season winning streak for the Warriors, dating back to January 8, 2022.

The Warriors are idle until December 31 when it travels to top-10 foe Dodge City Community College for a New Year's Eve matchup in Dodge City, KS.
