MCHENRY NAMED ICCAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore guard Don McHenry (Milwaukee, WI/Hawaii-Hilo) of the Indian Hills Men's Basketball team has been tapped as the 2022-23 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Voted on by the league head coaches, McHenry was a unanimous decision.

McHenry becomes the sixth consecutive Indian Hills Men's Basketball student-athlete to earn the ICCAC Player of the Year honor. The sophomore was also named to the NJCAA All-Region XI First-Team along with six additional members of the Indian Hills squad.

"I am happy for Don to get recognized for his outstanding season," stated head coach Hank Plona. "Don is a joy to coach and a young man with a bright future. He brings positivity and energy to the locker room and to the court every single day, and has continued to improve throughout the year."

In his first year at Indian Hills, the explosive guard led the ICCAC in scoring with 15.5 points per game on the year. The sophomore reached double-figures in 22 of the team's 31 contests, including 10 games with at least 20 points. McHenry erupted for a season-high 35 points in a win over Highland on January 21.

McHenry was a four-time ICCAC Athlete of the Week, winning the honor three times in a four week span in January. The sophomore earned the first weekly honor of the year in Novembner after scoring 20 points in his first-career game at Indian Hills, an 88-87 overtime victory over Dodge City Community College (KS) that saw McHenry hit an overtime buzzer-beater.

From January 14-February 22, a span of 11 games, McHenry averaged 21.3 points per game, reaching double-figures in each contest. McHenry averaged 14.8 points per game in eight matchups against nationally ranked opponents this season. The sophomore tallied 25 points against No. 1 Northwest Florida State College on November 16, 29 against No. 17 Triton College (IL), and 24 against No. 18 Southeastern Community College.

McHenry's 480 points on the year are the most for an Indian Hills player since Tyon Grant-Foster totaled 511 during the 2019-20 season.

The sophomore also averaged a team-high 2.9 assists per game and ranked second on the team with 1.3 steals per game. The guard also corralled 3.1 rebounds per contest.

"Don is a huge part of our team and deserves everything that is coming his way in his future," Plona added. "We are thrilled that he will always be an Indian Hills Warrior."

The Warriors posted a 27-4 record on the year and earned the No. 6 overall seed in the upcoming NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. Indian Hills captured the regular season ICCAC title.
