WARRIORS EDGE NORTHEAST 2-0 AT HOME

Ottumwa, IA – Shogo Koike (Taishi, Japana/Taishi) netted an insurance goal and added an assist in a 2-0 win over Northeast Community College (NE) for the Indian Hills Men's Soccer team on Sunday night. The Warriors improve to 5-1-2 on the year.

The Warriors extended their unbeaten streak to six matches with the win, having won three in a row and five of their last six. The last three victories for Indian Hills have come by way of shutout.

Playing their first match in five days, the Warriors used an early goal from Ronaldo Carvalho (Orlando, FL/Carlucci American International School of Lisbon) at the 8:30 mark to take the initial lead. Carvalho received a cross from the left side from Koike and buried his first goal of the season. The Warrior offense continued to pressure the defensive line of Northeast, but scoring chances came at a minimum as Indian Hills maintained its 1-0 lead at the intermission.

Freshman Koshei Hayashi (Kizugawa, Japan/Kumiyama) managed the goal for the first 45 minutes of action before fellow freshman Matteo Scarduzio (San Secondo Parmense, Italy/Fabio Bocchialini) manned the net for the entire second half. Scarduzio made several key saves to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.

Indian Hills continued to push for a second goal and finally broke through in the final minute of the match. After a key defensive stop, the Warriors broke free across midfield and a three-on-one opportunity led to a goal for Koike, his second of the season, on an assist from Galder Gaztelu-Iturri (Bilbao, Spain/Lauro Ikastola).

The Warriors outshot the Hawks 18-13 and earned six corner kicks to just two for Northeast.

Indian Hills returns to action on Sept. 15 with a 9:00 PM match vs. Hawkeye Community College.
