WARRIORS SET FOR NATIONALLY RANKED MATCHUP

Council Bluffs, IA – The Indian Hills Men's Soccer team is set for a nationally ranked matchup on the road against No. 1 and defending national champion Iowa Western Community College on Wednesday.

Heading into Wednesday's matchup, the Warriors are back in the national rankings for the second time this year after a major upset over then-No. 6 Iowa Lakes Community College on Sunday. Head coach Kevin Nuss' squad is ranked No. 20 in both the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer Poll and the United Soccer Coaches Junior College DI Men's Soccer Poll. The Warriors were previously ranked as high as No. 18 this season.

SIZING UP THE REIVERS

The top-ranked team in the nation has put together an 11-0-0 record to open the year, including a 2-0-0 mark in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play. The Reivers currently sport the second-lowest goals against average in the nation, allowing just 0.54 goals per contest this year. In 11 matches, Iowa Western has conceded just six goals. On the offensive end, Iowa Western has scored the fifth-most goals in the nation with 45 this year.

WARRIOR NOTES

The lone team in the ICCAC to score more than Iowa Western this year? Indian Hills. The Warriors currently boast the second-most goals in the nation with 56 on the year. Indian Hills has taken the most shots of any team in the country with 162 this season.

Indian Hills has scored at least two goals in all but one contest this year and have scored at least three goals in each of the team's eight wins this year.

LAST TIME OUT

The Warriors nearly derailed Iowa Western's national championship run last year in the NJCAA Region XI Semifinals. The Reivers needed extra time to defeat Indian Hills 2-1 in the postseason matchup, the last meeting between the two squads.

Iowa Western has won the last seven matchups with the Warriors. Indian Hills' last victory came on September 26, 2018, a come-from-behind 2-1 victory with David Medeiros' goal coming in the final minute of play.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The top goal scorer in the ICCAC is Indian Hills freshman Daniele Verdirosi (Rome, Italy/Araniti) who's prolific scoring ranks second in the nation with 12 goals this year. Verdirosi tallied a hat trick to knock off Iowa Lakes on Sunday and has scored 11 goals in his last eight contests.

Kevin Mejias (Fermo, Italy/Montegiorgio Calcio) has added nine goals for the Warriors followed by Kento Tan's seven scores this year. Ron Becker (Tubingen, Germany/Evangelisches Firstwald Gymnasium) is currently tied for fifth in the nation with eight assists this year.

Iowa Western's Eyifehn Forfor is the lone individual to put home more than five goals for the Reiversthis year with seven, but 17 different members have found the back of the net, including 10 with at least three goals.

In net, Hector Munoz has produced the most minutes and has racked up seven wins while Kaakon Utesch has secured three wins and 0.33 goals against average.

Following Wednesday's match, the Warriors continue ICCAC play at Fort Dodge, IA with a match against Iowa Central Community College on October 1.

The Warriors are Reivers will meet one more time in the regular season as Iowa Western travels to Indian Hills on October 12.
