SIX LAND ON ALL-REGION XI TEAMS

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Men's Soccer team placed six individuals on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer All-Region XI team, including three first-team selections. The Warriors won the 2022 NJCAA Region XI Championship and advanced to the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament.

Highlighted by NJCAA Region XI Player of the Year, freshman Daniele Verdirosi (Rome, Italy/Araniti) was joined on the first-team by teammates Pedro Amancio (Maceió, Brazil/Colégio Intensivo) and Ron Becker (Tubingen, Germany/Evangelisches Firstwald Gymnasium). Sophomores Kevin Mejias (Fermo, Italy/Montegiorgio Calcio) and Kento Tani (Tokyo, Japan/Nihon University Sano) were joined by freshman Diego Palma (Santiago, Chile/Francisco Vergara Bobadilla) on the All-Region XI Honorable Mention team.

Verdirosi had a breakout freshman campaign for the Warriors that resulted in being named the NJCAA Region XI Player of the Year. Verdirosi's 19 goals rank third-most in school history for a single season and were the third-most in the nation this year.

Amancio served as a key figure for the Warriors throughout the year. The freshman midfielder started all 22 contests on the year and totaled six points. Amancio scored one goal and added four assists on the offensive front while aiding the defense to 1.86 goals against average and five shutouts this season.

Becker was tapped as the NJCAA Region XI Tournament MVP after guiding the Warriors to two victories over top-10 nationally ranked opponents in the NJCAA Region XI Tournament. The freshman tied for the most assists in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with 11 on the year which rank fourth-most in a single season in school history. Becker totaled 25 points overall this season with seven goals to go along with the 11 assists.

In his first season at Indian Hills, Mejias made an immediate impact on the offensive front. The sophomore tallied 12 goals, second-most on the team and second-most in the ICCAC while adding three assists for 27 points. Mejias scored a goal in each of the two NJCAA Region XI Tournament matches to earn NJCAA Region XI All-Tournament Team honors.

Tani completed his Indian Hills career with a number of appearances in the Indian Hills record book. The sophomore scored seven points and added eight assists on the year for a total of 22 points. Tani finished his Indian Hills career with 41 total points which ranks fifth-most all-time in school history while his 16 goals are fifth-most all-time at Indian Hills.

Tani had a pair of multi-goal performances for the Warriors this year, including a three-goal, one assist effort against Scott Community College on September 6. The seven points are tied for the third-most all-time in school history.

Palma played a critical role in the midfield for the Warriors as a true freshman. Palma started 14 matches on the year, including the final 11 of the year after missing time due to an injury. The freshman midfielder was an integral piece in the Warriors' run to the NJCAA Region XI Championship, making an impact on both the defensive and offensive ends of the field for the Warriors.

The six All-Region selections are the most for the Warriors since 2019 season when the Warriors earned eight postseason picks across three All-Region teams.
