WARRIORS EARN THREE ALL-AMERICA HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – On the heels of a historic season, the Indian Hills Men's Soccer team garnered a school record three National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer All-America honors, announced by the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer Committee Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Gustavo Marques (São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Anglo Indaiatuba) and freshman keeper Harvey Sellers (Surrey, England/Ewell Castle) earned second-team All-American honors while freshman defender Ales Kohoutek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnázium Litoměřická) was named to the NJCAA All-America third-team.

The three individual honors are the most in a single season in school history for the Warriors, surpassing the 2017 squad that earned two All-American bids. As a program, the Warriors have now earned six all-time NJCAA All-American accolades, including four in the last two seasons alone.

"Proud of these three for earning these accolades and playing an important role in our season this year," stated head coach Felix Vu. "I am hoping the experiences Harvey and Ales had this year can help shape next season's group, and Gustavo to be a good influence where he goes next season."

The Warriors posted a 10-3-5 overall record on the year after claiming the regular season NJCAA Region 11 title and the NJCAA Midwest District Championship to advance to the national tournament for the second time in school history. The Warriors nearly advanced through the Pool Play stage, forcing the first-ever three-team tiebreaker at the national tournament. Indian Hills finished the season ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA poll.

The three individuals were also recognized on the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) All-Region 11 First-Team for their efforts.

Gustavo Marques  |  Sophomore  |  Forward  |  São Paulo, Brazil

Marques etched his name into the Indian Hills Men's Soccer record books following a standout two-year career for the Warriors. As a sophomore in 2023, Marques led the Warriors with 18 points and seven goals on the year, and tied for second overall with four assists. The forward tallied five matches with at least two points, including three matches with four points on the year.

Marques opened the year in impressive fashion, scoring two goals in the season opener against Southwestern Illinois College. The sophomore added a goal and two assists against Illinois Central to pace the Warriors.

Marques saved his top performance on the biggest stage, scoring two goals in a 2-1 win over No. 5 Barton Community College at the NJCAA National Tournament in Wichita, KS. Marques' late goal in the second half proved to be the equalizer, while his goal in the second overtime served as the game-winner, the Warriors' second victory all-time at the national tournament.

Marques concluded his Indian Hills career with 16 goals, fifth-most all-time in school history while his 38 points are eighth-most in program history.

Harvey Sellers  |  Freshman  |  Goalkeeper  |  Surrey, England

Sellers emerged as the Warriors' primary keeper in his inaugural season in Ottumwa. The freshman cemented his name in the Indian Hills record books as one of the top netminders in the 17 years of existence of Indian Hills soccer.

Sellers made 13 starts in net for the Warriors, posting a 6-2-5 overall record on the year, including an unblemished mark in league play. Sellers' 0.70 goals against average set a new school record at Indian Hills while becoming just the second individual in program history to post a sub-1.00 GAA. Sellers' 0.70 mark was good enough for seventh among all goalies in the NJCAA this season.

Sellers tallied five shutouts on the year, fifth-most in school history. Sellers' 0.789 save percentage on the year also ranks fifth in school history for the Warriors.

As a member of the Warrior defense, Sellers helped set a new school record with a 0.93 GAA on the year, the 13th-best mark in the NJCAA.

The freshman was twice tapped as the ICCAC DI Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week.

Ales Kohoutek  |  Freshman  |  Defender  | Prague, Czech Republic

Kohoutek made an immediate impact in his freshman campaign for the Warriors, anchoring a defense that set a new school record with a 0.93 GAA on the year. Kohoutek appeared in 16 contests for the Warriors, making 10 starts on the backline while tallying an assist for the Warriors.

Kohoutek and the Warrior defense pitched a total of eight shutouts on the year, which tied a school record with the 2017 squad. The Warriors' eight shutouts tied for the 10th best mark in the NJCAA this season.

The freshman becomes the first defender in Indian Hills school history to earn NJCAA All-America honors.
