LARRY WIECZOREK INVITATIONAL

The two-day, 15-team field at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational gets underway Friday afternoon in Iowa City, IA. Nearly 20 student-athletes will travel to the University of Iowa for one of the premier competitions in the nation.

  • The Warriors are the only junior college team in the nation to be invited in a field that includes multiple BIG 10 programs.
  • Five different individuals will compete against professional competition in the Hawkeye Pro events.
  • Sophomore school record holder Haleigh Hadley (high jump) and freshman standout Jahzara Hart (60m, 200m) will represent the women at the Larry Wieczorek Invite.
  • Former Warrior Kalen Walker, now a member of the University of Iowa, holds the all-time 60-meter dash meet record (6.61).

MARSHALL TO JOIN ELITE COMPANY

Rivaldo Marshall, the three-time national athlete of the week and five-time Indian Hills school record holder will toe the line with some of the top runners in the nation on Saturday. Marshall will compete in the 1,000-meter PUMA ATL Hawkeye Pro Classic.

Marshall, who set the all-time, all-conditions National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 800-meter record on December 10, will look to set a new national 1,000m record. Marshall has been invited to compete against some of the top runners in the world including USA's Clayton Murphy who claimed Bronze in the 800m at the 2016 Olympics.

Marshall, who is the defending 800m outdoor national champion, is the youngest competitor in Saturday's eight-man field.

CYCLONE OPEN

More than 20 individuals will compete at Iowa State's home meet on Saturday. The Warriors previously competed at Iowa State's Holiday Invitational on December 10.

EWING'S NOTES

"I'm incredibly excited about the opportunities our team has this weekend," stated head coach Brent Ewing. "Our student-athletes that will compete at Iowa are going to be a part of one of the best meets in the entire country. What makes it so special is that it is a college/professional meet. We are the only junior college invited to run at this meet which I think says a lot about the state of our program.

Our student-athletes going to Iowa State are going to have a great opportunity as well as they'll compete against several NCAA DI programs. Traditionally, we have ran some of our program's fastest times at Iowa State."

WHAT'S NEXT

Both the men's and women's squad indoor seasons is in full swing as the Warriors next head to the Wendy's Pitt State Invitational in Pittsburg, KS on January 28.
