TAYLOR CRUISES TO NATIONAL HONOR

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Tyrice Taylor (Linstead, Jamaica/Vere Technical) made headlines once again for the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field team as the sophomore netted United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Athlete of the Week honors.

The defending 800-meter outdoor national champion cruised to the fastest 800m indoor mark this season with a blistering time of 1:48.49 at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational in Ames, IA. In a loaded field at the Harry Hoak Track, Taylor edged Iowa State's Darius Kipyego by 0.18 seconds to take top honors at the event.

The mark was good enough for the fourth-fastest all-conditions time in NJCAA history. Taylor's time is currently the second-fastest time in the nation among all collegiate levels, trailing only former teammate and Indian Hills national champion Rivaldo Marshall, now a member of the University of Iowa Men's Track & Field program who ran the fastest time this past weekend with a mark of 1:47.83.

Taylor now owns the fastest all-conditions mark this year in both the 800m and the 600-yard events after posting a 600y time of 1:09.34 last week at the Washburn Alumni Invitational in Topeka, KS.

Taylor becomes the sixth different Indian Hills Men's Track & Field student-athlete to garner USTFCCCA weekly honors and second this season, joining teammate Traunard Folson (Jacksonville, FL/Andrew Jackson) who was recognized last week.

The Warriors return to action after the holiday break with the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, IA.
