SPORTS SHOOTING SET FOR NEW SEASON

2022 INDIAN HILLS SPORTS SHOOTING SCHEDULE

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Sports Shooting squad has announced its schedule for the upcoming fall season. Led by head coach Jake Stalzer, the Warriors are entering their sixth season of competition.

The Warriors are coming off a 2021-22 season that saw the program place fifth at the Iowa Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) State Championship and second overall at the SCTP Collegiate Nationals. In the highly-competitive Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), the Warriors went 3-3 overall to finish third in the league.

Action gets underway September 17 as the Warriors head to Northeast Iowa Community College in Jackson Junction, IA for a cross-division matchup. The first home duel for Indian Hills will be against Kirkwood Community College on September 24 at 10:00 AM at the Ottumwa Izaak Walton League. The Warriors will also host Hawkeye Community College for a conference duel on October 8.

"We are scheduled to host two home trap shoots at the Ottumwa Izaak Walton League," stated Stalzer. "We also have three multi-discipline shoots (trap, skeet, sporting clays) spread out throughout the fall which will be a great and exciting change to our typical schedules in the past."

Indian Hills will compete at Simpson College October 22 and 23 before the Warriors head to the SCTP Collegiate State Championship November 5-6 to close out the fall season.

"I'm excited to get our sixth season rolling," Stalzer added. "We have a couple great incoming trap shooters in local Cardinal alum Johnny Guiter, and Cedar Rapids and Kennedy High School native Joel Ellis that I think will make an immediate impact. We're also excited to see Emily Sytsma from Pella Christian compete on the ladies side."

The Warriors return 12 members from last year's squad while seven newcomers join this year's program. A number of sophomores return for the 2022-23 season after strong showings at the end-of-year collegiate nationals.

"Our top returners are Landon Hubble and Nathan Dusnbergen who came on strong towards the end of the year in the game of trap, and are both great all around shooters that we will look to for leadership in our skeet and sporting clays shoot on the docket this year.  We will also look to Camme Barber for those multi-discipline shoots and Ashton Lyons to step up and be in our top 5 for trap consistently."
