ABRAMS LEADS WARRIORS TO 4TH PLACE AT GVU OPEN

Waukee, IA – The Indian Hills Sports Shooting squad wrapped up an action-packed weekend with a strong showing at the Grand View Open, placing fourth overall as the lone junior college team at the New Pioneer Gun Club.

The Warriors posted a team High Overall (HOA) total of 1,303 targets over the course of the two-day, three-discipline event. The Warriors placed behind William Penn University, Wartburg College, and Simpson College.

"It was a long weekend traveling up to Waterloo Friday, then Waukee both Saturday and Sunday," stated head coach Jake Stalzer. "We came off a defeat at Hawkeye Friday and were motivated Saturday morning. The team started off a little slow, but lit the sporting clays course up in the afternoon posting some terrific scores." 

Freshman Carson Abrams (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) led the charge for the Warriors with a two-day total of 272 targets hit, Abrams, who has led the Warriors in a series of events to open up his collegiate career, connected on 95 Trap targets, 93 Skeet targets, and 84 Sporting Clays targets.

Mason Herrington (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) placed second overall for the Warriors with 268 total targets. Herrington tallied a team-high 94 Skeet targets while the freshman's 94 Trap targets ranked second.

Aiden Eischen (New Sharon, IA/North Mahaska) and Kyler Schwartz (Burlington, IA/Burlington) posted team-scores of 257 and 255, respectively to place third and fourth overall for the Warriors. Eischen tied for a team-high 95 Trap targets while Schwartz led the way with 86 Sporting Clays for the Warriors.

Cooper Clark (Story City, IA/Roland Story) and Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) followed Abrams with HOA tallies of 251 for the Warriors. Kirubakaran, who placed third overall Friday at Hawkeye Community College, Connected on 92 Trap targets while Clark converted 90 Skeet targets.

Raymond Franzen (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) added an impressive showing in the Trap discipline, tying for the team-lead with 95 targets, including an opening-round score of 49/50 targets.

 "We have a very talented squad, we just need to work on our consistency," Stalzer added. "Thank you to Charlie from Grand View and New Pioneer Gun Club for hosting us this weekend.  Having shot there twice already, we will definitely have an advantage going into the state tournament here in a few weeks."

Indian Hills will now host its lone regular season dual at the Izaak Walton League in Ottumwa on Saturday. The Warriors welcome Southeastern Community College for a 10:00 AM start.
