WARRIORS GARNER 19 ALL-REGION HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Sports Shooting squad collected 19 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) All-Region honors, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Spread out across four categories and both male and female recipients, the Warriors saw eight individuals garner postseason honors. Six individuals were named to one of the three High Overall (HOA) teams while six student-athletes were named to one of the three Sporting Clays squads. Four individuals were recognized on the Skeet All-Region squad while one was selected to the Trap All-Region team.

"This year, before the season we discussed how Sports Shooting does not have an All-Region team like other traditional sports do," stated head coach Jake Stalzer. "We worked with the ICCAC to come up with the format and what it would need to look like. Super happy with how it all turned out and even more thrilled to have so many of our student-athletes represented."

Of the 11 ICCAC programs competing this season, the Warriors collected the second-most All-Region selections among the four categories and tied for the most selections in the HOA category with five. The Warriors' seven Sporting Clays All-Region selections, along with three first-team recipients, were the most among all conference members this year.

Freshman Haley Byrge (Chilton, WI/Chilton) led the Warriors with four All-Region selections. Byrge was selected to the second-team HOA All-Region squad while earning second-team honors in the Skeet and Sporting Clays discipline and a spot on the Trap Honorable Mention team. Byrge placed eighth overall at the ICCAC/SCTP State Championship for the Warriors.

"Haley bringing home honors in each ladies category was phenomenal and very proud of her," Stalzer noted.

The Warrior men earned five HOA honors, including four second-team recipients. Aidan Eischen (New Sharon, IA/North Mahaska), Carson Abrams (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian), Cooper Clark (Story City, IA/Roland Story), and Mason Herrington (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) were named to the second-team while Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) was named Honorable Mention.

"The male HOA second-team was made up of almost entirely Indian Hills shooters with Zane as an honorable mention - goes to show our depth and how well rounded those five are in each discipline," Stalzer added.

Indian Hills cleaned up in the Sporting Clays discipline with seven male selections. Abrams, Clark, and Kirubkaran earned first-team recognition while Herrington and Kyler Schwartz (Burlington, IA/Burlington) were named second-team honorees. Raymond Franzen (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) was named to the Honorable Mention team.

"Sporting clays really surprised me in a good way, having seven of the 15 spots be Indian Hills shooters on those teams. Thrilled with those results especially having kids that didn't have much experience pick that discipline up this year and excel."

Herrington was the lone recipient on the first-team Skeet squad from Indian Hills while Abrams earned second-team honors and Clark was awarded Honorable Mention recognition.

"I'm proud of this group and all their accomplishments this fall," Stalzer exclaimed. "We'll look to build off what we learned to keep momentum going as we look towards the spring and nationals."
