WARRIORS PLACE THIRD AT SIMPSON SHOOTOUT

Waukee, IA – The Indian Hills Sports Shooting squad opened up its spring portion of the 2023-24 campaign with a third-place showing at the Simpson Shootout at the New Pioneer Gun Club over the weekend.

Competing across all four disciplines, the Warriors sent 10 individuals to the range for the first time since the Fall season. Indian Hills posted a High Overall All (HOA) score of 1,491 targets hit and tied for second overall with 480 trap targets, the team's highest mark of the 2023-24 season and best score since 2021.

Indian Hills was led by freshman Carson Abrams (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) who placed third overall in the men's HOA with a score of 315. Abrams posted 96 trap targets and 94 skeet targets to lead the Warriors.

Freshman Aiden Eischen (New Sharon, IA/North Mahaska) found himself in a four-way tie for first-place with the highest trap total on the weekend with 98 targets. Eischen fell just short in the four-person shoot-off to place fourth overall. The freshman finished 16th overall in the HOA standings with 298 total targets after battling back on Sunday to place third overall with 43 super sporting targets. Eischen earned a spot on the podium after winning a shoot-off for third.

Freshman Cooper Clark (Story City, IA/Roland Story) earned an 11th place HOA finish for the Warriors, totaling 300 targets, including 95 trap targets and 90 skeet targets.

 Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) placed 29th overall with 96 trap targets and 88 skeet targets. Mason Herrington (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) posted a consistent effort across trap, skeet sporting clays, and super sporting to take home a 21st place finish for the Warriors.

On the women's side, Haley Byrge (Chilton, WI/Chilton) finished 12th overall for the Warriors with a 250 HOA. The freshman connected on 86 trap targets. Emma Bradley (Albia, IA/Albia) and Scarlet Meyer (Bloomfield, IA/Davis County) competed in trap only, finishing with 86 and 85 targets, respectively.

Indian Hills will now turn their attention to the upcoming ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, TX at the National Shooting Complex March 18-23.
