San Antonio, TX – The Indian Hills Sports Shooting squad capped a historic season with a runner-up finish at the 2024 ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships, the best postseason finish in school history for the Warriors.

Competing at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio for the second consecutive year, the Warriors placed second overall in the Classic All Around (CAA) Division IV National Championship with a team total of 1,364 targets across three disciplines. The Warriors improved on their third-place showing from a year ago. As a team, the Warriors tallied 482 trap targets, the team's highest of the year and just one target off the school record. The Warriors also connected on 464 skeet targets and418 sporting clay targets.

"Amazing week down in San Antonio at the ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships for the squad," stated head coach Jake Stalzer. "Really proud of this group and it was fun to see them all click at the right time – lots of growth throughout the season came together and we had many personal bests. The team was really strong in trap and sporting clays."

Indian Hills was led by sophomore Mason Herrington's (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) solid week, placing 18th overall individually out of 231 competitors. Herrington connected on 277 of 300 targets to lead five individual Warriors in the top-50 in the CAA final standings.

"Mason was our top gun of the tournament all around and was a pleasure to watch and see him unlock his full potential and be locked-in in every aspect."

Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) took home a 27th place finish with 272 targets followed by Carson Abrams (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) and Cooper Clark (Story City, IA/Roland Story) who placed 36th and 37th, respectively, with 270 targets. Aidan Eischen (New Sharon, IA/North Mahaska) placed 44th overall with 269 targets to round out the Warriors' top-five.

Herrington and Eischen excelled in trap for the Warriors, earning their way into a 14-way shootoff for the individual national championship. Both Herrington and Eischen tallied 99 targets in regulation of Class A and advanced to the second round of the shootoff to earn top-10 finishes. Eischen took home seventh place honors while Herrington placed ninth overall for the Warriors.

"For both Mason and Aidan to advance to the shootoff, it was a phenomenal experience and learning tool for the both of them heading into the future," Stalzer added.

Kirubakaran's consistent presence helped the Warriors achieve its national runner-up performance. The freshman placed third overall on the team in trap with 97 targets and connected on 94 skeet targets to place 16th overall out of 142 competitors.

"Zane was solid all around being our third guy in every discipline which is huge as he originally came into our program as just a specific trap shooter," Stalzer noted.

On the ladies side, freshman Haley Byrge (Chilton, WI/Chilton) continued her standout freshman campaign for the Warriors and took home a 21st place individual finish with 252/300 targets. Byrge placed in the top-five for the Warriors in the sporting clays discipline with 79 targets and added a strong showing in trap with 92 targets.

Clark was the top gun in skeet for the Warriors with 95 targets while Eischen added 94. Indian Hills also saw strong showings from Raymond Franzen (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa), Jordan Patterson (Cambridge, IA/Ballard), and Deven Renard (Knoxville, IA/Knoxville)

Stalzer noted his excitement as the team heads into the future after a record-breaking season. "The squad is young as we will only be losing Mason for the 2024-25 season, so we are already looking forward to next year and seeing how much more we can improve with all the experiences this season gave us."
