CHEEK EARNS THIRD CAREER ICCAC HONOR

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore pitcher Ryann Cheek (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Pitcher of the Week after leading the Warriors in the team's season-opening weekend in Oxford, AL.

Cheek, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region XI selection a season ago, posted a 1-1 record in the circle last week while boasting a 0.95 earned run average in 7.1 innings of relief work. As a team, the Warriors went 2-2 in the NJCAA National Preview at Choccolocco Park.

Cheek has now been named the ICCAC Pitcher of the Week three times throughout her career after earning the honor twice as a freshman last season.

In Cheek's first appearance of the year in the team's season opener, the southpaw worked 3.1 innings of relief to earn the win for the Warriors, a 3-2 victory over Blinn College (TX). The sophomore scattered two hits and did not issue a walk while allowing one earned run.

Cheek followed up the next day against Northwest Florida State College with 4.0 innings of dominant relief work. Cheek allowed just one hit and one unearned run with zero walks in the contest. Northwest Florida State, ranked No. 2 in the nation this week, scored its lone unearned run off Cheek in the top of the ninth to steal the win from the upset-minded Warriors.

Cheek and the Warriors will now head to Jefferson College (MO) for a doubleheader on Friday afternoon before heading to St. Charles Community College (MO) for a triangular matchup with St. Charles and Heartland Community College (IL).
