MADIE ANDERSON NAMED PITCHER OF THE YEAR

MADIE ANDERSON NAMED PITCHER OF THE YEAR

Ottumwa, IA – The league leader in wins, sophomore Madie Anderson of the Indian Hills Softball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Anderson becomes the first player in ICCAC history, dating back to the 2011 season, to win back-to-back conference Pitcher of the Year honors. Anderson is the fourth different player in program history to win the ICCAC Pitcher of the Year accolade as the Indian Hills Softball team has now captured the honor in five of the last six seasons. Anderson was also named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Softball All-Region 11 First-Team for the second consecutive season.

"Madie has had a fantastic career at Indian Hills and I know she is not done," stated head coach Lindsay Diehl. "It has been fun to watch her confidence grow and her push herself to be the pitcher of the year for a second year in a row. Her ability to spin the ball and keep batters off balance has been fun to call games for."

Anderson put together another remarkable season in the circle for the Warriors. The sophomore matched her win total from a season ago, going 17-3 while tossing a career-high 131.1 innings. Anderson struck out 116 batters to just 36 walks allowed and sported a career-best 1.55 earned run average. On the year, Anderson tossed 13 complete games with four shutouts, including three in conference play.

Anderson allowed one earned run or fewer in 16 of her 25 appearances on the year. The righty has boasted a strong finish towards the end of the year, posting six scoreless appearances over her last nine outings.

The sophomore hurler produced her first-career no-hitter in a thrilling 1-0 victory at North Central Missouri College on March 30. Against Kirkwood Community College on April 10, Anderson struck out a career-high 16 batters, the most for a Warrior pitcher since 2020. Anderson struck out seven batters or more in a game seven times this season.

The sophomore has totaled 34 career wins and reached the 250-strikeout milestone during the 2023 season. Anderson lowered her career earned run average to 1.96 in 49 career appearances at Indian Hills.

Along with Anderson's honor, Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) was named the ICCAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season while Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) was named the ICCAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. Coach Lindsay Diehl has been named the ICCAC Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season. In total, 12 members of the Indian Hills Softball team earned All-Region 11 honors.
