Council Bluffs, IA – On the heels of a thrilling come-from-behind victory to keep its postseason run alive, the third-seeded Indian Hills Softball team will head to top-seeded Iowa Western Community College for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Championship series.

The championship round of the 2024 NJCAA Region 11 Tournament gets underway Sunday night from the Dr. John and Jean Marshall Complex in Council Bluffs, IA.

  • The Warriors head to Council Bluffs having won eight consecutive NJCAA Region 11 Championships while Iowa Western won the previous four before the Warriors' run.
  • Indian Hills and Iowa Western will meet in the championship round for the first time since 2021 and the fifth time in the last nine years.
  • The Warriors head to Council Bluffs with one of the top offenses in the nation. The Warriors rank 11th nationally with 582 hits this year and 21st overall with 437 runs scored.

HOW WE GOT HERE

The Warriors and Reivers both advanced to the NJCAA Region 11 Championship series after both sides won the opening round best-of-three series.

  • Indian Hills came out on top of a thrilling series with second-seeded Southeastern Community College.
  • The Warriors dropped an epic opening round game, 15-12 before rallying for a 10-2 victory in game two. The Warriors erased a 9-0 deficit in the winner-take-all game three and captured the series with a 16-13 victory.
  • The Warrior offense erupted for 12 home runs in the three games while Ashlynn Sheets and Sara Reid each earned a win in the circle.
  • Iowa Western advanced with ease after dropping fourth-seeded Southwestern Community College 15-1 and 11-0.
  • The Reiver offense connected on 28 hits in the two games, including 11 extra base knocks.

SERIES HISTORY

Dating back to 2013, the Warriors own a 37-26 advantage over the Reivers.

  • Indian Hills has won six consecutive postseason games over the Rivers and nine of the last 11 matchups.
  • Since 2015, the two teams have played two winner-take-all contests to win the Region title with the Warriors taking both.
  • Indian Hills won 11 consecutive contests over the Reivers prior to Iowa Western winning the 2024 regular season series 3-1.

SCOUTING THE REIVERS

The Reivers clinched the top seed in this year's tournament for the first time since 2014 after going 13-3 in league play. Iowa Western currently owns a 35-17 overall record.

  • The Reivers rank ninth in the nation with 218 extra base hits and ninth nationally with a .652 slugging percentage.
  • Last year's ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year, Cydnee Schneider leads the offense with a .507 batting average.
  • The Reivers boast four individuals - Schneider, Moira Baxter, Allie Cromer, and Mattea Martin who have played all 52 games while batting above .415 on the year.
  • Madeline McCall leads the Reivers with 10 wins in the circle and a 2.49 earned run average.

WHAT'S NEXT

The winner of the 2024 NJCAA Region 11 Championship will punch its ticket to the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament May 10-11 for a best-of-three series. The winner of Iowa Western and Indian Hills will host the winner of the NJCAA Region 16 (Missouri) tournament.
