WARRIORS, WIEMANN TAME COUGARS ON THE ROAD

Peoria, IA – No. 6 Indian Hills Women's Soccer went on the road to pick up a 2-0 victory over Illinois Central Community College on Wednesday. The Warriors improve to 14-0-0 overall on the year.

The team's first road game in nearly a month, Indian Hills used a pair of Bailey Wiemann (Burlington, IA/Burlington) goals to secure the victory and extend the team's unbeaten streak. The Warriors are now just one of three unbeaten teams in the nation.

"We started off well enough and put quite a bit of pressure on," stated head coach Anthony Longo. "It took a little bit of time to get used to being on the road and back on grass, but I thought the girls did really well with it as the game went on. We had some really good chances to get on the scoreboard early, but couldn't quite get our finishing down. I thought we were in control for the large majority of the game. We moved the ball well for the most part and created plenty of opportunities throughout the game."

The top scoring team in the country, the Warriors controlled the early portion of the match but failed to find the back of the net. With halftime drawing near, the Warriors went to its prolific scorer in Wiemann just before the intermission buzzer to take a 1-0 lead. Wiemann buried a cross from the left side of the field from Ikumi Okumura (Edogawa, Japan/Murata) for the edge.

The Warriors built off of its momentum to open the second half as Wiemann tallied another goal in the 47th minute to double the lead. A shot from Elisabeth Plouy (Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls) deflected in front of the net and Wiemann was able to score on the open goal for her 20th goal of the season.

"Bailey came up huge for us again today," Longo added. "Getting on the scoreboard right before halftime gave us some momentum, and we were able to get the second goal quickly out of halftime and we were in complete control from there."

The shutout was the team's third consecutive clean sheet and 9th of the year. Freshman Sydney Ray Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) made her first career start in net to earn the victory.

A perennial favorite out of the Illinois region, Longo noted the impact of the win on Wednesday. "This was an important game for us. Illinois Central is a favorite to win their region, so it was good to get a win against a very quality team."

Wiemann's four points on the day puts the sophomore in a tie for first place in the nation for total points on the year with 54 while her 20 goals rank second. Wiemann has now scored five goals in her last two matches and has scored at least two goals in seven games this season. The sophomore was named this week's confernece athlete of the week after tallying nine points for the Warriors last week.
