The Warriors, ranked No. 17 in the preseason NJCAA poll, open up the season on Friday against Johnson County at 3:30 PM on the newly renovated IHCC Soccer Field featuring the state-of-the-art GrassMax playing surface. Johnson County and Illinois Central will square off at 3:30 PM on Saturday followed by the finale featuring Indian Hills and Illinois Central at 3:30 PM on Sunday.

"We are very much looking forward to this year's IHCC Classic," stated head coach Ulysus Torres. "The likes of both Illinois Central and Johnson County are top opponents and we are certainly up for the challenge."

LOOKING AT THE WARRIORS

Indian Hills brings back six student-athletes from last year's record-breaking program. Led by All-Region XI First-Team selection Abbie Bailey on defense, the Warriors feature a number of returners that will look to make an impact from the get-go. Along with Bailey, Emma Zillig brings experience on the defensive side while the offense will look to playmakers Rebekah Gutierrez, Dare Kroeten, Ikumi Okumura, and Mifumi Sasanuma. The quartet combined for 20 goals and 23 assists last season as freshmen.

First-year head coach Ulysus Torres will guide the Warriors into the opening weekend with the team's annual classic. Indian Hills has won seven consecutive matches in its home event dating back to the 2017 season and are 7-0-1 all-time.

SIZING UP THE CAVALIERS

Friday's match will be the first meeting between Indian Hills and Johnson County since the Warriors began fielding a team in the 2007 season. The Cavaliers are coming off a 7-7-1 season and a third-place finish in the KJCCC last year under head coach Jim Schwab who has led the program since 1999. A perennial power, Johnson County has won eight NJCAA Region VI championships since 1999.

Johnson County returns two of its top-five scorers from a year ago, including sophomore Riley Porter who scored a team-high nine goals and led the team with 18 points on the year.

SIZING UP THE COUGARS

Indian Hills and Illinois Central will meet for just the second time in history, but for the second consecutive year. The Warriors topped the Cougars 2-0 in East Peoria, IL last year.

Illinois Central, who list in the NJCAA Region XXIV Championship game last year, returns two of its top five scorers from last season. Meitxell Mena Borrull and Paula Gallardo Villanueva combined for 36 points, including 10 goals from Borrull.

WHAT'S NEXT

Following this weekend's IHCC Classic, the Warriors head to Murfreesboro, TN where Indian Hills will take on Wabash Valley College (IL) at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 27 and Motlow State Community College at 1:00 PM on Sunday, August 28.
