SOPHOMORES CARRY WARRIORS TO 3-0 WIN

Waterloo, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Soccer team completed a Warrior sweep over Hawkeye Community College on Saturday after defeating the Redtails 3-0 on the road. Both the Indian Hills men's and women's teams earned victories over Hawkeye at the Cedar Valley Complex.

The Warriors won their fourth consecutive match while earning the team's fourth shutout of the season. Freshman Sara Cogoli (Erbusco, Italy/IIS Luigi Einaudi), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Goalkeeper of the Week improved to 5-0-0 on the year while pitching the complete game shutout.

The Warriors received goals from three sophomores in the victory as Dare Kroeten (St. Louis Park, MN/St. Louis Park), Abbie Bailey (Redditch, England/Arrowvale), and Mifumi Sasanuma (Tokyo, Japan/Shutoku) all found the back of the net in the second half.

"We had a lot to improve on our previous performances as a team and got close to playing a complete 90 minutes of good soccer," stated head coach Ulysus Torres. "This is definitely a showing that we need to continue to build on and progress as a team."

The Warriors outshot the Redtails 18-1 on the day while earning three corner kicks in the victory.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Warriors put just two shots on net, Kroeten broke free in the 50th minute. The sophomore received a long cross from the right side from freshman Shay Polson (Johnston, IA/Johnston) and fired a low-shot that beat the keeper.

Just over four minutes later, Bailey found the back of the net for the first time this season. The sophomore defender lobbed a ball from the far right side that carried over the head of the Hawkeye goalkeeper to make it 2-0 in favor of Indian Hills.

Sasanuma put home the final Warrior goal in the 84th minute on an assist from Rebekah Gutierrez (Denver, CO/Klein Oak).

The Warriors will now host Scott Community College at home on September 6. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM.
