Godfrey, IL – Fresh off a victory in its regular season finale, the Indian Hills Women's Soccer team is set for postseason action this weekend with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Soccer Central District Tournament.

A win over District foe Illinois Central Community College on Wednesday night sent the Indian Hills Women's Soccer team into the right direction heading into the opening round of postseason play on Friday. 

FIRST TOUCH

The Warriors (6-6-2, 0-2-0) head into the NJCAA Central District Tournament to take on Wabash Valley College (IL) (6-8-2, 1-0-0) at 2:30 PM at Tim Rooney Stadium in Godfrey, IL in the first round of the postseason tournament.

  • Maika Nchana and Alexia Bru tallied goals on Wednesday night to lift Indian Hills to a 2-0 win over Illinois Central, snapping a two-match losing streak.
  • The Warriors collected their fourth shutout of the year behind three saves from María Melendez, the freshman's second shutout of the season.
  • Sage Prince brings a team-high six goals and 13 points into the postseason for the Warriors.
  • The Warriors are 5-0-0 on the year when scoring two or more goals in a match.
  • Indian Hills is 2-3-1 against opponents paritcipating in this year's District tournament.

SIZING UP WABASH VALLEY

Indian Hills and Wabash Valley previously squared off in Ottumwa back on September 5, a 1-0 victory for Indian Hills behind a goal from Sage Prince and a shutout from Sara Cogoli.

  • Indian Hills is 3-0-0 all-time vs. Wabash Valley with each contest occurring over the last two seasons.
  • Along with the 1-0 victory this year, Indian Hills scored 1-0 and 4-1 victories over Wabash Valley last season.
  • Wabash Valley enters the tournament as the third-place team out of NJCAA Region 24 (Southern Illinois) after 2-2-1 over the team's final five contests of the regular season.
  • Lexi Blasberg leads Wabash Valley with a team-high seven goals and 14 points on the year.
  • Hannah Mailander has seen the most action in net for Wabash Valley and owns a 4-4-2 record on the year.

BREAKING DOWN THE BRACKET.

With just two Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Women's Soccer programs in Indian Hills and Iowa Western Community College this year, the postseason format shapes up differently than previous seasons.

  • Iowa Western earned a first-round bye with the regular season ICCAC title over Indian Hills and will take on the winner of Illinois Central and Lincoln Trail College (IL) at 12:00 PM on October 22.
  • With a win over Wabash Valley, Indian Hills will advance to take on NJCAA Region 24 top-seed Lewis & Clark College (IL) at 2:30 PM on October 22.
  • The semifinal winners will advance to the title match on October 28 with the location to be determined.
  • The winner of the championship match will advance to face the winner of NJCAA Region 7 (Tennessee) November 4 to earn an automatic bid to the upcoming NJCAA DI Women's Soccer National Tournament in Wichita, KS November 12-18.
