WARRIORS LAND EIGHT ON ALL-REGION 11 SQUAD

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Soccer team placed eight individuals on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Soccer All-Region 11 squad, announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) on Wednesday afternoon.

The Warriors placed five individuals on the All-Region 11 First-Team while three individuals garnered second-team recognition. The Warriors finished the regular season with a 7-6-3 overall record while advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Midwest District Tournament.

Indian Hills was represented on the first-team by sophomores Leila Karam (Cowansville, Quebec/Cure'-Antoine Labelle), Shay Polson (Johnston, IA/Johnston), and Sage Prince (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic Secondary) alongside freshmen Alexia Bru (Barcelona, Spain/Vall d'Hebrón) and Maika Nchana (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages). The second-team was made up of sophomores Kenya Lee (Cassopolis, MI/Dowagiac) and Talia Stacy (Murrieta, CA/Great Oak) and freshman keeper María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil).

"We had some excellent talent this year and we are very pleased to have them recognized," stated head coach Jon Hussak. "On top of that, we have some good freshmen talent in Alexia, Maika, and Maria in that list, which creates a nice foundation moving forward with this team.We have a lot of exciting plans going forward, beginning this offseason, moving to the spring and into the fall 2024. Our players can't wait to get back after it."

Polson anchored the Indian Hills defense to five shutouts on the year as the Warriors posted a 1.66 goals against average. The sophomore, who made the switch to the backline for the Warriors this season, started all 16 contests on the year.

Prince led the Warrior offense with a team-high eight goals and 17 points on the year. The sophomore forward tallied two goals in a single match three separate times this season, including a pair against Wabash Valley College (IL) in the opening round of the District tournament.

Karam tallied seven points while starting all 16 contests for the Warriors. Karam posted three goals, including two against Western Iowa Tech. Karam also served as a key contributor on the Warrior defense throughout the year.

Nchana's explosiveness at the top of the Warrior offense led to a team-high eight assists while finishing the season with 14 points, second-most for Indian Hills. The freshman tallied a goal and two assists in the opening round of the District tournament and recorded at least one point in eight contests this year.

Bru boasted nine points on the year with three goals and three assists from the center midfield position. The freshman tallied five points over the team's final two games of the season, including a goal in the 4-2 win over Wabash Valley in the District tournament.

Lee collected her second-career postseason honor after earning Honorable Mention status as a freshman. Lee started all 14 games she appeared in through the year, scoring a pair of goals for the Warriors.

Stacy joined the Warriors late into the season, but made an immediate impact on the pitch. The sophomore started the final seven contests of the year to aid in the team's postseason push.

Melendez served as the Warriors' primary keeper throughout the season, starting 12 contests in net. The freshman totaled 1055:00 between the pipes and posted a 1.71 goals against average, tallying four wins and three shutouts for the Warriors. Melendez finished the year with a .759 save percentage.
