WARRIORS DROP THRILLER IN DISTRICT TITLE MATCH

West Plains, MO – For the second consecutive year, the Indian Hills Volleyball team made a thrilling run to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Midwest District Championship, but fell in five sets to No. 5 Missouri State University – West Plains

The Warriors, who defeated John A. Logan College 3-0 in the semifinal round on Saturday, advanced to the district championship with a berth to the national tournament on the line. Taking on the Grizzlies for the third time this season, the Warriors pushed the match to five sets, but came up just short as Missouri State – West Plains outed the Warriors from postseason play for the second consecutive year.

With the loss, the Warriors now await the possibility of earning one of two at-large berths to the national tournament.

Indian Hills opened up the day with an impressive showing against John A. Logan in the semifinal round, sweeping the opposition 25-15, 25-13, and 25-14 to earn a spot in the district title game against West Plains. Brooke Amann (Woodstock, IL/South Dakota State) led the offense with eight kills and added a pair of block assists.

The Warriors rolled into the championship match against West Plains having won four straight matches, all 3-0 sweeps. The hot streak continued for Indian Hills as the Warriors opened with a 25-18 win in the opening set. West Plains responded with a 25-13 win in set two to even the match, but the Warriors struck back with a 25-22 victory in set three. West Plains responded with a 25-22 victory of their own to force the decisive fifth set for the second straight year.

The Grizzlies jumped out to an early lead on the Warriors and held on to earn an automatic berth to the NJCAA DI Volleyball National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS.

Sophomore Precious Daley (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) posted a .385 hitting percentage with 13 kills. Daley's all-around effort on Saturday also included nine total blocks, 10 digs, and a pair of service aces.

Amann tallied 11 kills in the losing effort while Jenna Vallee (Pornichet, France/Lycee Aristide Briand) contributed 12 kills on 30 attempts. Hennesys Lalane (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Luis Munox Rivera) managed the offense with 44 assists. Melodee Schulte (kaneohe, HI/Southeastern CC) recorded a career-high 28 digs for the Warriors.
