VOLLEYBALL JUMPS TO NO. 6 IN THE NATION

NJCAA DI VOLLEYBALL RANKINGS

Ottumwa, IA – After an impressive start to the new year that saw the Indian Hills Volleyball program go 8-1, the Warriors earned recognition from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Committee with a No. 6 national ranking in the first poll of the season.

The Warriors defeated three opponents ranked inside the top-12 in the national preseason rankings, including a thrilling come-from-behind victory over No. 2 New Mexico Military Institute at the Odessa College Invitational on Friday. The No. 6 ranking is the highest for the Warriors since finishing the 2019 season at No. 6. The 2019 team reached the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS.

Indian Hills' fast start to the 2022 season has also included signature wins over then-No. 5 Butler Community College (KS) and then-No. 12 Jefferson College (MO) at the Reiver Classic in Council Bluffs, IA.

The Warriors have been paced early on by the likes of Hennesys Lalane (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Luis Munox Rivera), Larissa Barreiros Scatamburlo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colégio Liceu Franco-Brasileiro), Erica Calderon Rosario (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Salome Urena de Henriquez), and Sasha Vidal (Asunscion, Paraguay/Trinity School). Lalane leads the nation in assists while Vidal is tops among all NJCAA Division I student-athletes in digs. Rosario ranks first nationally with 45 blocks and Scatamburlo is second in the NJCAA with 109 kills.

As a team, the Warriors are tops in the NJCAA with 107 total blocks on the year, including the second-best solo blocks mark with 44 this season.

The Warriors are set to host Des Moines Area Community College at 6:00 PM Monday night at the Hellyer Center.
